Justice

OK. I want to hear what people think is the principle of justice.

What is justice?

that's all.

your moment of zen:
Trent Lott: "I want the President to look across the country and find the best man, woman or minority that he can find." - as seen on Daily Show

An equal balance of reinforcement and punishment. :)

The distribution of consequences based upon the truth of events; the punishment of criminals and legal offenders, the rewarding of those who protect the rights of others and the protection of the innocent.

jus·tice (n.)

1. The quality of being just; fairness.
2.

2. Conformity to moral rightness in action or attitude; righteousness.
3.

Most of these definitions all include the word "just", which is no help to any of us. So I looked up Just. m-w.com thought I meant "joust", so I looked elsewhere.

See just:

OK, so it seems like justice is the quality of seeking what if fair, based on ethics or law. this is the definition they put forth, it seems.

This doesn't do it for me. I dunno, maybe I am thinking of something else, but is justice the quality of seeking to protect the innocent and punish the guilty? Or is that something else?

I think that's my nascent definition of justice, but I also think I need to think about it some more.

Keeping it short...

I am not sure how I would define justice, but to me its not about punishment and rewards...

Its keeping a blance in life of the good with the bad. Life is very much an 'impartial' pendulum that swings back and forth and justice tries to bring it back to center.

Bah, thats my attempt
