The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)

Dead in 'informed' circles eh?
Well, is it?? HUH???
Relating continuing to kiss to not hitting your finger with a hammer is preposterous. Kissing has many cultural ramifications. In Russia, men greet each other with kisses on the lips to show brotherhood, whereas such an action in, say, the U.S. would assume romance. I grew up in a house where kissing was meant solely for romantic purposes, but it is used as a casual greeting in many parts of the world (see, Europe, Latin America). The article assumed kissing as a romantic action, but in studying the background, one can't just limit study to merely that. And further, the origination of a common action such as kissing that dates to prehistory can only be guessed at, anyway, whether the purpose be socialogical, physiological, learned or inherent.
As for evolution. It clearly isn't dead in informed circles, even if other alternatives are more accepted (which I keep hearing, but I have yet to see proof of).
