By the Consent of the Governed

There has been a shift in how our government views us. It is a subtle shift, but it is one that is incredibly frightening.

The government used to think of us as citizens. It looked to protect us from being taken advantage of by big corporations and from being hurt by criminals.

But now.

Now, the government looks at us as criminals. Every new law being made, every new executive order - they are all to find the criminal, not protect the innocent.

The shift is this: The old laws were protectionist but passive (i.e. the govt could only act when a wrong was committed). Now, the laws are active. The government is now looking for the criminals - hunting them, searching their homes, their possessions, their movements. But since the government doesn't know who they are, they search through the populace. They search all of us to find the criminals.

My tinfoil hat doesn't seem so silly now.

We should make a tinfoil hat for George and take a picture and send it to Washington with a note that says "Do you see what you are driving us to do?!" Also, on that tumblr headline about boat powered by fat I swear the first time I looked at it it was boat powered by fart. Our boat would go very far.

No time to comment on Delia's article just yet, getting ready to go diving.

But quick on yours.

Watched a China documentary where the guy was explaining China's legals system and said "Our government is designed to catch innocent men so that guilty ones will not go free"

He said this with pride. China facinates me and how its populace feels.
