Hope?

Is hope always rational?

Is hope ever rational?

Rational (from dictionary.com):
1. Consistent with or based on reason; logical: rational behavior.

Hope (from dictionary.com):
1. The feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best.

I am still working on my thoughts. What are yours?

200th Post

This is my 200th post - yay me! And as I sit here, playing Burnout Revenge and considering life, I find that I want to continue the themes I have been exploring lately. The theme being, of course, when people view their lives, do they see chance or fate.

Looking at what you do, or what you aspire to do, why did you choose to do it? Was it just that it interested you? Was it that it was what you are passionate about? Or was it something you felt called to do? Why do you do what you do?

And further, could you imagine doing anything else? Could you imagine a world where you had a totally different job or aspiration?

For myself, these ideas are in my mind as I sit and search for jobs. Why do I have a law degree? Why do or did I aspire to be a lawyer? Is that really the career for me, or is it just a stepping stone in my life, a resting spot until I can find something... better, for lack of a better word, though I don't know if better is right.

So let's hear your thoughts. Why do you do what you do?

My musings for the moment

So, when you think about the course of your life, when you think about the random events that have happened, the unlikely coincidences and fortunate happenstances...

Do you use words like "Destiny" and "Fate," or do you use words like "Chance" and "Coincidence". When you look back on the course of your life, how do you describe the twists, turns, and random loops it has taken?

Where's the wonder?

I don't have much to say, just a few questions I was thinking about last night. I was watching a movie and the protagonists went to a World's Fair at the turn of the century. They saw a light display on a couple of buildings, and were in awe. The look of wonder on their faces got me to thinking...

1. Are we losing (or have we lost) our sense of wonder or awe?

2. If so, what is (are) the cause(s) of the loss?

3. What fills you with awe or wonder?

Ponderings

Do you ever look at people you used to know and wonder about them and compare yourself to them?

Recently due to the magic of internet, I have been coming into contact with a lot of people I used to know, back in Wisconsin. And I see where we all were, back together in roughly the same place in Wisconsin, and I see where we all are now - an owner of his own company, a project manager of a national organization, actors in New York, a dentist, a world travelling manager of a dance company, a mother of 2 kids...

And I wonder about all of us. I see all of us in such difference places, and I wonder how we got where we are, and where we could have been had we done things differently, and all that stuff.

It's a bit sobering, to see how much some people have made of their lives in such a short time. I mean, I know we should all measure success differently, and we all have different goals and dreams and ideals. I know all that, but it still makes me wonder. Even though I know I shouldn't, I still in some ways compare where I am now with where they all are now.

This isn't a cry for pity or anything, it's just a random train of thought I wanted to share.

Fulfillment

This blog post is for Beth - we had a discussion at lunch today that started me thinking.

She was saying that her work is not fulfilling right now. And she was talking about what she wants to do that will be fulfilling. THen she asked what fulfilled me.

And sad to say, but right now, I don't have an answer right now. I am in a ditch, I feel like, and I know jobs will come soon and all that. But I sort of feelm like I lost my aims and aspirations a bit recently. I dunno if it's just the lack of a job, or if it's the fact that I'm sending resumes to EVERY type of lawyer, whether or not I like that type of law.

So, here is how you all can help me. Answer the question yourselves. What fulfills you? Maybe I will be inspired by your answers. Who can say.

Peace.
